Send us your purified protein or protein band/spot excised from SDS-Polyacrylamid gel and order your individualized protein analysis service by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.
MALDI-TOF MS (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry) allows the absolute and accurate mass determination of biomolecules such as peptides and proteins at a wide analytical mass range. The sample to be analyzed is mixed with a matrix, ionized with a laser, and accelerated towards a detector to analyze its mass by time of flight. The absolute mass determination of proteins is helpful when the gene sequence of a protein is unknown, a protein shows posttranslational or primary structure modifications, or the tertiary structure of a protein deviates significantly from a sphere leading to wrong molecular weight determinations by SDS-PAGE or gel filtration.
Furthermore, the absolute mass determination of peptides generated by trypsin digestion of a target protein allows the identification of this protein (or impurities of protein preparations), the identification of changes of primary structure, and the identification or comparison of posttranslational modifications.
