The SIGNET monoclonal anti-EGFR, clone 111.6, detects the extracellular domain of the 170 kD Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor transmembrane protein. Clone 111.6 recognizes intact and vIII variant of the epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) (Type I). Molecular weights are identified as 170 kD and 145 kD. Clone 111.6 shows no cross-reactivity with c-erbB-2, c-erbB-3, c-erbB-4 and mouse and rat tissues. Anti-EGFR antibody blocks the binding of EGF to EGFR. Over expression of EGFR is reported in tumors of breast, brain, bladder, lung, cervix, vulva, and endometrium. EGFR is predominantly over expressed in squamous cell carcinomas.
