The SIGNET monoclonal antibody against human T cells reacts with CD43, a membrane-bound antigen present on all mature and immature T cells and absent on mature B cells. In addition, it has been shown to react with thymocytes, monocytes, macrophages, epidermal Langerhans cells, Kupffer cells of the liver, myeloid cells, and erythrocyte precursors. MT1 is reactive with T-cell lymphomas, histiocytic tumors, and lymphoblastic B-cell lymphomas. Small lymphocytic lymphomas and centrocytic (small cleaved, diffuse) lymphomas stain weakly. Centroblastic/centrocytic lymphomas (cleaved cell/non-cleaved cell), centroblastic lymphomas (large non-cleaved, diffuse), B-immunoblastic lymphomas and plasmacytomas stain negatively with this antibody.
