TAG-72 (Tumor associated Glycoprotein-72), a high molecular weight glycoprotein complex. The CC49 antigen is expressed by a majority of human adenocarcinomas including colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, ovarian, endometrial, mammary and non-small cell lung cancer. Weak or nondetectable expression is seen in a majority of normal adult tissues, with the exception of secretory endometrium. Monoclonal antibodies CC49 and B72.3 have similar reactivities on normal adult tissues, with CC49 exhibiting stronger staining than B72.3 on inflammatory colonic tissue. In carcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract, ovary, breast, and lung, CC49 reacts with a greater percentage of carcinoma cells and/or tumor-associated mucin than B72.3.
